The Witcher 3is not content with leaving the Pellar as an odd old coot with a suspicious relationship with his goat. He stars in a short side quest that gives you some insight into who he is and why Velen benefits from him by helping him conduct a ritual called Forefather’s Eve, which happens to share its name as the quest itself.
How To Start Forefather’s Eve
The Pellar will not ask for Geralt’s help until you completeA Towerful of Mice. Once Fyke Isle has its curse lifted, he will approach Geralt and ask for the witcher’s expertise in protecting some villagers as they beseech the spirits of the departed.
The Pellar will approach Geralt at either Crow’s Perch or Keira Metz’s hut, depending on your progressFamily Matters, one of the Bloody Baron’s quests.
Once the quest has been accepted, you willneed to go to Fyke Isleandspeak to the Pellar at night. He will ask Geralt if he is ready, giving you a chancetocomplete your preparations.
You will be fightingseveral waves of enemies, with each one comprised of a different kind of enemy. It is best toreplenish your alchemicalsuppliesbefore starting the quest.
Drowning In Drowners
Forefather’s Eve begins in earnest as soon as Geralt signals that he is ready. The Pellar leads the audience in a chant, creating a disturbance significant enough todraw a pack of drownersand awater hagtowards the ritual.
This set of enemies are necrophages and are vulnerable toNecrophage OilandIgni.
The drowners will use their numbers tooverwhelm Geraltwhile the water hag caninterfere from a distanceby slinging filth.
As the hired muscle, you will have todefeat the attackers.Geralt’s health will befully restoredonce they are slain. A cutscene will play on your victory, with a ghostaccusing the Pellar of murdering his own father.
Which Choice To Pick With The Witch Hunters
The Church of the Eternal Fire’s infamous Witch Hunters interrupt Forefather’s Eve right as the magic begins and demand the ritual to come to a halt. You will have two choices.
“Leave them alone.”
Geralt willdefend the Pellarandfight the Witch Hunters, ensuring that the ritual continues.
“Not my fight.”
Geralt willallow the Witch Hunters to stop Forefather’s Eve.The Pellar will be upset and refuse to reward Geralt. The quest willend immediately after.
If youchoose to fight, the Witch Hunterswill turn hostile and must be killed. They arenormal human enemiesand can be defeated with conventional tactics. The Pellar will alsoenter the fray, helping you fight.
Their blood willtaint the ritual, attractingwraithsto the area. The Pellar will call for the participants to flee and asks Geralt todefeat the wraiths.
Like all wraiths, they should be fought withSpecter Oiland Yrden. Dodge around the group, luring them into the sign to turn them tangible.Moon Dustwill have a similar effect.
The Pellar is understandably upset by the outcome, but appreciates Geralt’s assistance. The witcher offers to help the wise man bylifting the curseon the Pellar’s slain father. Angry specters tend to become safety hazards, after all.
Where To Find The Pellar’s Father’s Body
The Pellar tells Geralt that he dumped his father’s bodyin the swamps to the west. The instructions are as vague as they sound. You will need to travel a significant distance, if you have yet to complete the questthe Crones of Crookback Bog.
