Wild Hearts is out now, and while players on console are enjoying the first real competitor to Monster Hunter, those on PC have only hadcomplaints about the performance since Early Access. Unfortunately, developer Omega Force hasn’t been able to fix the issue before launch, leading toreview bombing on Steam. The developer has announceda patch to fix these issuesonce and for all, but no date for it. However, one player has managed to find a workaround to keep you going till then.

Posted byRyan Johnson on Steam forums, this “wonky workaround”, as they’ve called it, seems to have actually worked, not just based on the comments, but also an acknowledgment and thanks from the developer itself (thanks,PCGamesN).

“I’m not sure why or how, but upon downloading the game on medium and high settings, the overlay stated I was getting 60 fps but it felt more like 20,” said Ryan’s post." I was ready to wait to refund the game when my friend noted that he had put his headphone on and his problems went away and now the game was butter smooth.

“I tried the same but it didn’t work. I went to the audio settings and changed [stereo] (which is on by default) to 7.1 / 5.1 and it’s smooth? And I’m getting above 60 fps now. And it actually feels like it. The game is playable now.”

Well, this weird workaround seems to be working, as the comments section is filled with confirmation and thanks. Over on Reddit, thedevs confirmed that this workaround works, although not in each and every case. “We’ve been testing this fix that u/ProfessionalAnimal27 and Ryan highlighted and have confirmed reports that, in some cases, switching your “output settings” in the in-game Audio settings from Stereo to 71.ch/5.1ch can - again, in some cases - yield performance improvements.”

The post noted that players already getting over 60 fps are unlikely to see a further boost to the frame rate. “Huge thank you again to u/ProfessionalAnimal27 and Ryan for finding this workaround. And thank you to all the hunters this has affected for your patience while we work on a permanent fix.”
